Frequently Asked Questions
How long are the sessions?
Typically, sessions last 50-55 minutes in length.
How much does counseling cost?
Our private pay rate is $200 per 50-55 minute session.
If you have insurance and wish to use it, your rate will vary depending on your insurance benefits. Before the first session, it is recommended that you contact your insurance company to find out what your benefits are. We attempt to do this, but it is not a guarantee that it is correct. Please note that we only accept Blue Cross for insurance.
Unfortunately, insurance companies are becoming stricter on their stipulations for providing services and we prefer to give you control over your therapy instead of the insurance companies.
What can I expect in the first counseling session?
Typically we take the first session to review any paperwork that has not been completed and get a detailed history. We will talk about what therapy will look like for you and talk about confidentiality, financial information, and scheduling. We will make a plan of action and get you set up for any further appointments if you choose.
How often do I need to come in?
It is recommended that you come in for counseling on a weekly basis. However, there are circumstances where that is not possible. Just communicate that with your therapist so that we can work with you. Communication is always the key to helping you effectively. After you have reached your goals, or when you are close, your therapist may decrease the frequency to test how you do with that. We discuss this with you, and you are part of that decision.
How long does the counseling process take?
Counseling is very individualized, and the length needed to work through everything can vary from person to person. There is no timetable, no shoulds or should nots, and no right or wrong. You do you, that’s it.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you have to cancel or reschedule your appointment, Dragonfly Counseling will need 24 hours advance notice. This allows us to fill the spot with someone else who is waiting. If you do not call within 24 hours before your appointment or do not show up, you will be charged a $150 (or sliding fee amount) no-show/late cancellation fee.
Do you prescribe medication?
We do not currently prescribe medication, but we can help you get connected with prescribers in the area. We find it helpful to collaborate with your prescriber so that we are all on the same page, but we only do this with your permission.
